'Pak Lah Mahatir and Najib master tactician and king in politics of covered ups

A leader is a person who inspires, by her actions, her followers to dream and do the impossible. A leader is a person who makes extraordinary things happen. A leader is a person who is very influential and has a high degree of influencing skills. A leader is inspiring by his thoughts, his deeds, his words, his actions. A leader by definition, makes things happen and does not stand by on the side while things happen.

Take any leader and you will see that this is so. If these things are not happening, then I would doubt very much if the said person is a leader.

A leader takes responsibility for the actions of the persons he supposedly leads. A leader does not say, "I don't know". The leader knows that the buck stops at him and takes full accountability for the same. Two examples from Indian history stand out in my mind.

Mahatma Gandhi (the original Gandhi) undertook a fast unto death after the Chauri Chaura incident. Why did he do that? It was because he felt (and this is important) he was culpable for his followers actions with resulted in the burning down of a police chowky and many deaths.

Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1956, offered his resignation after a railway accident at Mahbubnagar that led to 112 deaths. However, Nehru did not accept his resignation. Three months later, he resigned accepting moral and constitutional responsibility for a railway accident at Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu that resulted in 144 deaths. While speaking in the Parliament on the incident, the then Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, stated that he was accepting the resignation because it would set an example in constitutional propriety and not because Shastri was in any way responsible for the accident. Shastri's unprecedented gesture was greatly appreciated by the citizens.[Wiki entry, here]

Look at history and you will see that leaders rarely share credit for victories but share all the blame when anything goes wrong. And incidentally both these leaders are with the party that today heads the government.

Today the two people from this very same party who head the government - one official, one unofficial - are leaders of a different nature. One has no idea what is happening under his watch or atleast claims to have no knowledge of what is happening under his watch. He has the certificate of integrity provided by all concerned. And the person he reports to, unconstitutionally, has nothing to say, except take potshots
at the opposition. What about the lakhs and crores looted? Why was your government sitting on all these scams? And these reports were out by atleast one newspaper in 2008 itself.

It beats me - a government that is reportedly the "most corrupt government ever to have ruled India" - its leaders should be accountable for it at the very least? Time after time the party has rewarded those who have indulged in corruption. Today it is Ashok Chavan who after being ousted from Chief Ministership is now eyeing the Rajya Sabha despite being in the limelight of the Adarsh scam. AndSuresh Kalmadi was busy enjoying yet another junket at tax payers expense - the very same taxpayers whose money he helped spend gainfully as part of our hosting the CWG games. And people by their very nature respond to incentives. And in this government, there is no incentive to stay away from corruption - indeed it is rewarded. And loyalty, surely, seems to matter more than corruption. Indeed, it is prized over ineffectiveness as well - see the curious case of Shivraj Patil. In my books, if corruption is overlooked it is because the money benefited in some way. After all there is no such thing as a free lunch is there?

Take any organization - if someone reports to a superior, the superior is accountable for all actions that is undertaken by the junior. Every single one. The superior cannot hide under, "I did not know" or "I was
not aware" or "I am honest, those who report to me are not." As a supervisor, you are entirely accountable to what your minions do. If this is true in any random private company it is sure for those who claim to be heading nations and governments? And when your reportee has cheated the exchequer of an enormous sum of money, you are accountable for it. And you better stand up and say that - as party head and government head. Instead what we see is theatrics, conspiracy theories, lengthy articles on the integrity of the Prime Minister, a quasi leadership that is forever missing in action or a leadership which will run away the first time a difficult question is asked.

I don't get it - how can the leaders (designated and quasi) of the government with the despicable "most corrupt government ever" tag be honest? It beats me. Can someone enlighten?

Said Datuk Seri Najib Razak.a technicalmatter did not involve the judiciary like my SMS Shafee Abdullah,Judge Zaki dismiss Najib as a witness

According to evidence introduced at the trial and other sources, Abdul Razak contacted Najib’s chief of staff, Musa Safri, to ask Najib’s bodyguards, Azilah and Sirul, to “do something” about Altantuya. Musa was not required to appear as a witness. Deputy Commander Mastor Mohd Ariff, an associate of the two bodyguards, said members of the unit were required to follow all orders of their superiors without question, describing the unit’s members as “like robots” who would only take orders from their superiors. Abdul Razak, a civilian and friend of Najib’s, was not a superior officer.According to an affidavit filed by Abdul Razak, Azilah contacted Abdul Razak after Altantuya’s disappearance to say that “tonight encik (sir), you can sleep well.”
Testimony by the murdered woman’s cousin indicated that immigration records of Altantuya and the two Mongolian companions who had come toMalaysia with her to confront Abdul Razak disappeared from the government’s immigration files. She also responded to a question that she had seen a picture of Altantuya having dinner with Najib before she was hurriedly hushed up by both prosecution and defense lawyers.
Nonetheless, Judge Mohd Zaki dismissed a bid in July to call Najib as a witness in the trial. Zaki also refused to call Balasubramaniam despite his written declaration, which implicated Najib in the events leading up to the murder. In addition to other lurid details, Balasubramaniam described text messages between Najib and Abdul Razak in which the latter was asking for help to avoid arrest.
Later, a series of text messages was made public indicating that Najib had been involved in finding a lawyer, Shafee Abdullah, to represent Abdul Razak. One message from Shafee to Najib said: “We provided (the police) everything, including old PDAs and notebooks and a couple of bills. Nothing incriminating.” Malaysia Today said the exchange raises questions if anything “incriminating” was kept from the police.
Besides allegations that Altantuya was the lover of both men, the case has raised additional concerns of corruption at the top of the United Malays National Organisation, the leading political party in the national ruling coalition. The Mongolian woman appears to have been the translator on a controversial transaction in which Malaysia, with Najib as defense minister, paid €1 billion for French submarines, netting a company tied to Abdul Razak US$111 million in “commissions.”

KUALA LUMPUR: In a startling new development, online whistleblower WikiLeaks has purportedly revealed that former premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi covered up a rape case involving one of his ministers.
WikiLeaks is said to have unveiled a series of diplomatic whisper about the minister allegedly having raped his Indonesian maid three years ago.
According to popular blog Rocky's Bru, an international non-governmental organisation had also reported that the alleged rape happened in Kuala Lumpur.
The report, copies of which were sent to the United States and Indonesian embassies here, included an interview with the alleged victim from Central Java.
A copy of the report was also submitted to the Prime Minister's Office then.
The blog stated that the maid, a mother of two, had been employed by the minister, a veteran Umno politician, for eight years.
The NGO's report claimed that her husband knew of the incident but the couple refused to press charges because of fear and shame.
According to the purported WikiLeaks disclosure, Abdullah had decided to keep the matter under wraps because he was worried that the issue could affect Malaysia's dicey ties with its neighbour.
Commenting on this, PKR Wanita vice-chief Haniza Mohd said those who flout the law must be dealt with, irrespective of their position.
“Although the credibility of the WikiLeaks disclosure could be questioned, if the rape really happened, it would tarnish Malaysia's image and affect bilateral ties.
“I am not talking specifically about this case, but in general, we cannot have two different legal approaches for VIPs and ordinary citizens.
“Whoever is accused must face the due process of law, especially when the said offender is a leader who has been given the mandate and trust by the people,” she told FMT.
Stressing the importance of all being equal before the law, Haniza said this would ensure that influential and prominent individuals were more responsible.
“If the WikiLeaks disclosure is true, then I condemn the crime and urge that legal action be taken against the perpetrator and that the victim be given adequate protection,” she added.
