KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 — MCA is now putting the pressure on to step down to walk the talk, talk a lot about democracy and transparency but their leaders hold appointed posts which allow them to wield plenty of power,” Loh said in a statement today. It is reassuring that Loh Seng Kok said UMNO MCA deputy NAJIB WAS NOT ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE AS PRIME MINISTER BUT APPOINTED BY THE UNMO WARLORDS unelected leaders should quit “These UMNO hypocrites. They are not qualified to tell Sarawak leaders to retire as they should have done so long ago,”politicians are never tired enough to retire.
It is reassuring that Paul the Octopus, arguably now the most famous contemporary resident of Germany, has entered the Indian political discourse. When the revolutionary leader Jayalalitha promised at a spirited rally in Coimbatore this week that the end of DMK rule in Tamil Nadu was nigh, a government spokesman asked whether she thought she had become Paul the Octopus. Paul, as our learned readers will fondly recall, predicted the results of eight World Cup matches on the trot. Had Paul been a betting man instead of a playful ink-squirter, he would have been a millionaire.
The DMK, however, might have missed the moral embedded in the crowning glory of Paul's fabulous achievements: he retired at the peak of his career. Paul knew when to stop. A statement has been issued from Paul's home, the Sea Life Aquarium at Oberhausen: "He won't give any more oracle predictions either in football, in politics, in lifestyle or economy. Paul will get back to his former job, namely making children laugh." It was news to me that Paul was giving lifestyle tips, but who can argue with the multiple collateral benefits of success? If the judicious display of cleavage can make you a sports commentator, why can't Paul provide some thoughtful advice on the hemline?
However, we are wandering from the point. Paul has said goodbye from the pinnacle. His memory will never be tarnished by the possibility that while sketching out a scenario on the economy he messed up on the prospective value of the euro in 2011, thereby tanking Europe's economy, sabotaging the re-election of Nicolas Sarkozy and driving Greece out of the European Union.
A perfectly timed exit is the key to history's judgment. How much greater would India's greatest Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, have seemed today if he had announced, just after he won his third consecutive general election in early 1962, that the time had come to write a few more books (which he did superbly; he and Churchill were in the same class as writer-politicians). Instead, wooed by suggestions of indispensability, he hung around till October and got clobbered by China in a war. Jawaharlal was already in the last phase of a long life; he would die in another 20 months. Two years of defeat, dismay and decline marred an epic career spread that had begun before the Khilafat movement.
Consider how much more glorious would have been the image of his daughter Indira Gandhi had she resigned as Prime Minister in the second week of June 1975 after the Allahabad high court judgment, and gone to the people instead of imposing an Emergency. She would have been re-elected by an unprecedented margin. Or if Vajpayee had trusted his instincts and told his coalition that poetry was preferable to politics after the Gujarat riots. All these were rational options. One does not include Narasimha Rao, who should have quit after abdicating his Constitutional responsibility on December 6, 1992, because India's most ruthless Prime Minister did not have regret in his DNA.
Witness Nelson Mandela: he topped a life of supreme courage and commitment by leaving office after one term of five years. The most charismatic visionary of our age had no delusions of grandeur, unlike far lesser leaders in Africa who destroyed the very freedom they won from colonial rule. Mandela placed his party and country above himself. He understood that institutions secure the future; individuals can only serve as the spur.
Indian politicians are never tired enough to retire. They do not leave the chair even when it has become a wheelchair. Old age has been famously described as being fifteen older than your age. This happy law keeps Karunanidhi in office. He has done great service to his state; time has eroded his physical strength. This is his moment to laugh with children, not wait until children begin to laugh at you. His own children are untroubled by sentiment. They want him to campaign in a wheelchair because his charisma is their only insurance against defeat; and they want to win so that they can indulge in the unchecked appropriation of wealth that has become a privilege of power — for all parties.
This is a central dilemma: power is too lucrative for anyone to walk away without a shove from the electorate. Some parties have also begun to believe that they can purchase enough voters to ensure victory, but such are the illusions that money tends to induce.
Perhaps our politicians should learn to laugh. It is a good antidote to self-importance. Clemenceau, prime minister of France during World War 1 and a hero to his nation, said, wistfully, upon seeing a pretty girl when he was 80, "Oh to be 70 again!"
“Allah has been used to refer to God for centuries even before Islam. The proof is there. So there should not be any restrictions on it. Christians should also have the right to practice their faith in whatever language they choose“I have seen corruption in the Peninsula but the corruption that goes on in Sarawak under this man is done with impunity. Done without even a shred of guilt or shame,” .
It is totally unfair to blame the anticipated political tsunami on Taib alone! Taib must stand firm against his political masters from the Peninsular.
Infact, his political masters from the Peninsular had done more harm to the fate of BN in the coming Sarawak State polls than Taib. Najib, Muhyddin, Kerismuddin are the greatest contributors if Sarawak BN fails to win with a 2/3 majority. The Kalimah Allah issue should have been settled once the High Court decision was made, and rightfully so, as Christians had been using the word in their Bible since centuries ago. Is UMNO more Islamic than the Muslims in the Middle East and Africa? Instead, they challenged the decision of the High Court and the case is still lying in the Courts of Appeals and we all know what the judgment will be, once the appeal is heard. The defacement and defacement of the Holy Bibles is too much to bear for the Sarawakians and Sabahans. What guarantee is there if after the Sarawak Elections, the Appeals Court rules that the Christians cannot use Allah in their Bibles?
The arrogance of Muhyddin, Kerismuddin and Perkasa have hurt the East Malaysians hard. Despite their enormous wealth which had been siphoned off both by Taib and the Federal Government, they obediently voted in BN elections after elections, but, there is a limit to everything and now the East Malaysians are saying enough is enough! They want back their rights to religion which is enshrined in the Constitution, they demand good governance, they demand equality, they demand good infrastructure, they do not want to depend on rain water for their use. They want more monies in their pockets! The only way out for the East Malaysians now is to tell BN through their votes that justice and equality must not only said to be done but seen to be done, and the only way to teach BN a lesson is to vote them out in as many constituencies as possible and if possible to deny them their customary 2/3 majority! Taib, fight for your rights, the failure of the BN is not yours alone, do not allow yourself to be the scapegoat. Fight Najib, Muhyddin and Kerismuddin. You have more support from Sarawakians than those who are making you the scapegoat! Meantime, Sarawakians, make good use of this opportunity to send as many Pakatan candidates into the State Assembly as possible and deny BN the 2/3 majority! Selamatkan Sarawak, Salam Reformasi!
EDITOR'S PICK A-LOOK-AHEAD As the sun sets over the horizon and the dust begins to settle, the results of the Sarawak Election begins to trickle in. And much to the horror of BN, hitting with the impact of a bombshell, the realisation that the people of Sarawak have finally rejected the once-mighty BN.
No, there is no doubt about it. Recount as much as you like but the Pakatan Rakyat coalition has managed to secure a sensational win in Sarawak. Against all odds, the people of Sarawak have spoken. Change is unavoidable. Another Tsunami has landed.
And as the drama unfolds, frantic activity begins to take place in Kuching in the still warm night, while other parts of Sarawak are drenching in rain showers washing away the sins of past regimes. As the result begin to sink in, visibly shocked Sarawakians takes to the streets, with shouts of joy and laughter. Knowing that it is all over, there will be dancing in the streets, as people start to celebrate the end of draconian rule. Finally, Sarawakians have beaten the odds and a new era is dawning upon them.
On the other end, the losing coalition is frantically gathering evidence for destruction. Documents are shoved into overworked shredders, while lorry-loads of criminal evidence are shipped out overnight. Any documents that may leave a trail of evidence will not be left behind.
And as a new dawn emerges, Sarawakians wake up to a new era, unable to hide their genuine smile, grinning all over as the unseen shackles collapse. Milk and honey begin to flow again. A new hope and a new beginning is felt among the populace. Finally, there is a reason to exist again.
As PR starts to take over the administration of the state, Sarawak begins its healing process, both physically, mentally and spriritually. As the old Masters start to pack up and disappear with their tails between their legs, the once-enslaved masses look on in incredulity at their new found freedom. For once in their weary existence, they are now masters of their own fate, and it is up to them to shape their destiny.
PR’s chief aim is to start developing the vast natural resources, tapping into the pool of human resources that will lead this State to prosperity. The 'leftover' BN opposition MPs begin to ponder their fate and mourn their losses, and the big question hanging on their heads is whether to stick on or evolve into amphibians.
Overnight, many Ibans may turn millionaires as their NCR lands are returned to them, and the spillover of wealth will start to stimulate and heal the economy of Sarawak. As the hoarded billions of ringgit are prevented from exiting Sarawak, it will be used as a stimulus to flood Sarawak with opportunities and wealth. Flushed with new funds for development, Sarawak’s economy will steam ahead, knocking down all the obstacles of poverty and graft. As the potholed roads are filled in, people’s optimism begin to stir and soar to new heights.
Archaic laws that were made to enslave the people will be dismantled one by one, enabling Sarawak to venture where no one has gone before. With a new sense of freedom, Sarawakians will venture forth to attain their long lost dreams.
From space, a satellite image will show Sarawak - a big blob of land mass nearly the size of the peninsula and glued to the Borneo subcontinent will appear, green amidst the vast blotches of brown from Taib's deforestation and surrounded by a deep blue sea - starting to heal itself. Whistle-blowers will ensure that pollution from giant oil mills and factories cease their persistent pollution and illegal run offs.
Not only the environment will heal but so will the people and its fauna and flora. The animals and birds will have fresher air and water to breed and the flora will start to flourish again. Sarawak, which is famous for its 180 million year old rainforests will once again be a botanical paradise where many of its exotic species will be extracted for medical and pharmaceutical drugs.
Billions of ringgit will be pumped into the economy to ensure Sarawak becomes a UTOPIA. The youth in the rural areas will be identified, and trained in new skills to be released into the job market created to spur the economy. Suddenly, everyone will be showered by new found wealth.
With the introduction of the CAT administration (competency, accountability and transparency) the state will transformed into the league of Penang and Selangor. This will translate into widespread development and clean administration for the people of Sarawak. Freedom of expression, freedom of religion and freedom to congregate will ensure Sarawak becomes one of the most democratic states in the world. Democracy will prevail, and everyone will enjoy equal rights. PR in its quest to increase the market share will recruit the poor in its programmes, and none will be left out.
Top of the list will be basic infrastructure – electricity, water and access roads into the interior. Later comes Internet connectivity via satellite communications. And suddenly Sarawak is a modern, pulsating state, standing on par with the rest of the world.
Scholars, Poets, Deep Thinkers, Educationists, Socialists, Aristocrats, Artistes, Composers and Architects of Modern Thought will one day be born from the sons of Sarawak. Everyone will have access to pristine Green Forests, Crystal Clear Rivers, Birds and Butterflies and the occasional Hornbill reminding us of UBAH in Recreation Areas.
The working class will be equally represented by the various indigenous tribes. The Iban Dayaks, Melanau, Orang Ulu, Bidayuh, Malay and Chinese and their ethnic cultures will forever be etched in the History of Sarawak.
Tourism will reach a new High, bringing in more tourist dollars and Sarawak will be top choice for Eco-Tourism in the world.
With the exodus of former leaders due to fear of prosecution, common criminals, illegal settlers and unwanted colonizers, Sarawakians will once again enjoy a cleaner, crime-free environment. Illegal migrants without skills or papers would be deported leaving an abundance of jobs
Music and the Fine Arts will proliferate, and Kuching will be dotted with galleries showcasing raw talent. It will continue to grow and one day it will be akin to be another fine example of Switzerland. With its land mass, oil deposits, timber and other natural resources, Sarawak will go on to overtake Penang and Selangor to be the most prosperous state in the Federation.
Peace and Prosperity, will finally reign in Sarawak. Without the Economic Pirates, Political Looters, and Colonial masters to pillage and plunder Sarawak’s wealth, Sarawak will ultimately reach UTOPIA status. It will also be an example for the rest of the Malaysian States to follow.
Sarawak has always been a utopia and still is a utopia now, only sadly, it has been mismanaged all these years. Sarawakians can change all that, as long as they can learn to say NO.
God will continue to bless the earth, its people, its hornbills, and everyone will live happily ever after. - Malaysia Chronicle
