PAS blinks as UMNO prevails, but who will be the new Menteri Besar ?

A majority of respondents in a one week survey conducted on the Selangor menteri besar crisis last month agreed that the Sultan of Selangor has the ultimate power to decide on who should be the next menteri besar.
More than 48 per cent of the 2,183 respondents polled agreed that the Sultan should decide on the next menteri besar compared to 36.4 per cent who are not inclined to agree while 15.6 per cent do not.
The respondents, who were selected through random sampling, had also blamed the state's political fiasco on opposition de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
More than 44.5 per cent of the respondents blamed Anwar, while another 17.9 per cent blamed Pas president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang and another 15.3 per cent felt Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was to be blamed.
The survey, conducted by Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam associate professor Prof Dr Ismail Sualman, also revealed that more than 50.8 per cent of the respondents feel that the Selangor political fiasco will have an impact on the overall performance of Pakatan Rakyat in the next general election.
Ismail said the respondents, who comprised of 54 per cent male and 45 per cent female, had also expressed desire to see Khalid continue his job as the menteri besar.
"More than 36 per cent of the respondent felt that Khalid should remain as menteri besar while another 31 per cent wanted to remain neutral.
"A mere 3.8 per cent strongly do not agree with Khalid as the menteri besar," he said after presenting his survey at a closed-door dialogue session organised by the National Council of Professors here, today.
Ismail added that the choice of sampling focused on the differences in the opinions of urban and rural residents in Selangor. He said the 2,000 plus respondents are representative of close to a million Selangorians.
"From our survey we have concluded that if a state poll is called, Pakatan stand to lose a number of seats, especially in the Malay majority and rural areas," he said.

The preservation of parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy.

What else can be more important? If we are to revere parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy, Kak Wan should be appointed as MB.

Otherwise what is parliamentary democracy when the one who got majority support cannot become the MB?If DSAI (Anwar) accepts that decision, it would also mean that he too is not prepared to uphold the constitution. Not upholding the state constitution would lead to a bad precedence.

I hope that all parties involved will repect the state constitution and parliamentary democracy. That is very important to us

Anwar is not confronting HRH, but in my opinion merely doing what is right for the country. Why on earth must the name of the next MB be kept a secret only until when he/she is sworn into office?

Dr Mahathir also said he wil lbe nasty  \said this Otherwise, they think everything they are doing is right and they will go on ...

Palace ticked Anwar off but quiet on Dr M when they said the same thing.’Waiting for the palace to reprimand Mahathir, too

Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was the PM for 22 years, has clearly stated he only sent in one name for MBs during his tenure and this must surely have a bearing on the current debate.

This must be repudiated and disproved if the argument of precedence and convention is to be even considered. Any hint of taint is definitely unfortunate and should have been avoided.t is a known fact to all that PAS/DAP/PKR have a clear understanding amongst them that the MB candidate should come from PKR. Also, Pakatan Rakyat had earlier requested (in writing) to 'Menghadap Sultan' some weeks ago. Why is the palace dragging its feet?

The palace should also stop issuing press statements belittling elected representatives of the people using a private secretary. Just invite Anwar or Kak Wan or both for a ‘Majlis Menghadap Sultan’ and sort this out amicably.

However, the bigger issue now would be the propriety and constitutionality of making HRH (his royal highness constitutional responsibility to see that there is no assault on the constitution. The Sultan of Selangor was wrong to have decreed that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) submit more names to the palace for the menteri besar (MB) post, a constitutional expert said last night, adding that only God, and not humans, had absolute power As pointed out by PKR leader Rafizi Ramli, allowing HRH to choose among several candidates would make HRH vulnerable to campaigning and other inappropriate suggestions. This also flies in the face of other conventions and would need to be fully ventilated in the public sphere for all to understand and accept as the requirements of the constitution.readmore The Palace is dragging on a self created crisis. forming the government in Delhi vs Selangor
Moves are reportedly afoot to cobble together a government in Selangor. The assembly has been kept in suspended animation after resigned, and not dissolved.
The statement also appeared to contradict former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recent claim that Umno too had only submitted one name for the mentri besar post.
Private secretary to the Sultan, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, said Anwar’s claim was inaccurate and insisted that the Barisan Nasional governments of the past had always submitted several names through the prime minister.
“The statement made by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was inaccurate and is misleading the people.
“What was practiced under the BN administrations was that the names of the candidates for the mentri besar post was presented to the Selangor Sultan by the Prime Minister when granted audience with the Sultan.
“It is in this event that the prime minister would present a few names deemed suitable for the consent of the Sultan,” Munir said.

PAS menteri besar is unlikely to be accepted by the party's allies PKR and DAP.and will never support with the choice for menteri besar it will be a temporary state government," Mohamad told reporters along the sidelines of the party's 60th assembly today.A new Selangor Menteri Besar (MB) from PAS would be a short-lived one,r it will be a temporary state government predicted the party's own deputy president Mohamad Sabu.
.
PKR party deputy president Azmin Ali would be made the new Selangor menteri besar as he was never nominated for the post., Azmin could change his mind and not accept the post as he did not have the support of the majority of Selangor legislators.

: PAS secretly submitted two names from its party and this went against the unanimous selection of PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as MB by Pakatan Rakyat.

This resulted in the palace requesting PKR and DAP to submit more than one name. HRH (his royal highness) did not reject Wan Azizah, as everyone assumed, but requested for alternates as PAS had done.

HRH in his wisdom will have to decide on a candidate with the majority support in the State Assembly or risk the possibility of a no confidence motion against a royally-appointed candidate. This will definitely not augur well for the palace.

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, though cannot refuse a royal command as a subject of HRH, has expressed his desire to decline the position in favour of Wan Azizah.

However, Selangorians must accept the decision by his HRH. We must not show disrespect to HRH. It must be remembered that the PAS action caused the turmoil and not the palace. It is not fair to say the palace was politically involved.u. Azmin will be a disaster for Pakatan and Selangor. Just looks at the huge number of his supporters who have been lobbying non-stop for years for him to be MB. What does this mean?

It means that Azmin is "laden" with cronies whom he will have to oblige and pay back with lucrative projects and contracts once he, Azmin, is in position of power, in this case, as the MB.

This is my one big fear. Wan Azizah, on the other hand, does not have any obvious cronies, at least not yet.
