Private secretary to the Sultan, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani afraid that Wan Azizah will became ‘Iron Lady of Selangor like Indira Gandhi
'Sorry your highness, I was following constitution'
Munir noted that it is policy for the Palace against revealing the alternative names and the information surrounding the process of nominating candidates for the mentri besar job.
The Selangor palace has accused PKR and DAP of “insolent and defiant” acts for refusing to submit more than two names to the sultan as candidates for menteri besar as requested.
NOW can the palace quickly make the POLIS Raja Di Malaysia report so that investigations can start and the AG can charge the leaders of PKR and DAP for treason…… I am sure the POlis Raja and AG will quickly do the biddings of umno seeing that they have been obedient umno lackeys all along…. And we will see what will be the reaction of the SELANGOR voters… The people who actually voted for 44 Pakatan Rakyat ADUNs last year…. (15 PAS, 15 DAP and 14 PKR)…
‘Sorry your highness, I was following constitution’
“We would like to seek the sultan’s forgiveness if our decision to adhere to the Selangor constitution and convention since 1957 had hurt the sultan’s feelings”this time. What are the purpose of law and constitution if they are not followed? It is your highness’s constitutional responsibility to see that there is no assault on the constitution. The Sultan of Selangor was wrong to have decreed that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) submit more names to the palace for the menteribesar (MB) post, a constitutional expert said last night, adding that only God, and not humans, had absolute power The candidate for MB must have and command majority support of the elected assembly persons by the people of Selangor. Th Ruler must understand the Assembly persons were choosen as candidates to stand for elections by their respective parties and the Ruler was neither consulted nor views sought on the choice. The party commanding majority support formally submit a name for MB and the Ruler has to accept and install the person as MB. as has always been.Selangor Sultan never disputed UMNO nominee why now The Palace is playing with fire and in a matter of time it will burn off royal prerogatives . The Palace is dragging on a self created crisis
The statement also appeared to contradict former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recent claim that Umno too had only submitted one name for the mentri besar post.
Private secretary to the Sultan, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, said Anwar’s claim was inaccurate and insisted that the Barisan Nasional governments of the past had always submitted several names through the prime minister.
“The statement made by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was inaccurate and is misleading the people.
“What was practiced under the BN administrations was that the names of the candidates for the mentri besar post was presented to the Selangor Sultan by the Prime Minister when granted audience with the Sultan.
“It is in this event that the prime minister would present a few names deemed suitable for the consent of the Sultan,” Munir said.
The rulers of most of the states signed a document called the Instrument of Accession which meant that their state agreed to become a part of the Union ofIndia. Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi is fondly remembered by Western press as the ‘Iron Lady of India.’ Within the country she is widely regarded as one of the strongest prime ministers the country has ever had. Her iron-fisted approach in dealing with policy made her one of the most-admired figure among world leaders. In keeping with her socialist principles, Indira abolished the maharajas of India's various states, doing away with their privileges as well as their titles Around half of modern India was patched together out of the 278 kingdoms ruled by a multitude of maharajas and nawabs under the British Raj. Some of the princely states were larger than France. Others were so tiny that a maharaja could throw a stone from his palace into the next kingdom. A few maharajas trace their lineages back 1,500 years, and they tend to look upon any dynasty less than 300 years old as frightfully nouveau riche. MORE than 20 years after Indira Gandhi stripped India's maharajas of their titles, their privy purses, their free first-class train tickets and their 13-gun salutes, Thus the rulers surrendered their sovereignty and as a quid pro quo they were granted handsome Privy Purses and other privileges. While most of India's princely families reacted with numbed shock to Gandhi's decision in 1972 to abolish their privileges, 'These rulers never would have gone along with Lord Mountbatten and joined India if they hadn't been given a guarantee that their rights would be respected.'
Gandhi won her first election in 1971 crusading against poverty, and the noble families were a ripe target. She also withdrew the princely privileges because she feared the vestiges of their old authority. After independence, many Indian noblemen had ventured into politics and were opposed to Indira Gandhi's mix of populism and socialism. After the British left in 1947, the maharajas' powers were gradually eroded. Their palaces, land and fabulous treasures were seized by the government or were tied up in lengthy disputes between the state and heirs.
Gandhi's move was the final blow for many of India's royalty. Not only did they lose their privy purses which, depending on the size of their old kingdoms, ranged from 1m rupees ( pounds 22,000) a month to 190 rupees; suddenly, they were also forced to pay taxes and they were no longer immune from the law.
