He seems to believe that is still stuck in a socialist-era time warp, a depressing time when the aam admi dreamt about government largesse to light his hearth. A bygone era (thank God), when telephone connections took years to be approved and gas-connections were an achievement you could flaunt in a matrimonial advertisement. The Rosmah’s appeal would have been obvious and even appreciable in a time like that – harassed Sharizat would have found a safe haven in Rosmah’s scheme of things.
